Making Extra Content That’s Still Meaningful

Creative work takes a while to finish. I’ve always felt antsy when I have nothing to upload, since I usually take a few days to finish an artwork.

This was a big problem for me a few months ago, when I wanted to start a Patreon. I felt like I didn’t have much to offer, because I was such a slow artist.

If you’ve ever felt that way, don’t worry! There are a lot of ways to make meaningful content, with a bit more effort. Regardless of what you create, here’s what can you do:

Share Your Process

How many hours do you sink into your work? We’re so used to looking at the finished work, that we forget the potential of the work put into the work.

For example, you’ve probably watched tutorials and speed paints. Those are great ways of making extra content without too much time or effort.

In my case, I upload the stages of my art process, and detail my workflow on Patreon.

Remember, regardless of what you post, make sure your audience comes away with something of value to them!

Add Story and Make it Interactive

I don’t know about you, but it feels like once I upload it, it’ll be forgotten by tomorrow. When you spend hours or days on an artwork, it sucks to feel that way.

I found that by adding a narrative flow and making small tweaks, you can make CG sets that feel like they’re more worth your time, and have more impact.

You could go a bit further by involving your audience in your artistic process. Use tools like Twitter polls or Curious Cat!

This one is great for making content both you and your audience want to see. Win win!

Repurpose and Reuse

What parts of your process and art can you repurpose?

Perhaps with a bit more time, you could turn studies into Your-Character-Here (YCH) raffles, or create tutorials by adding your observations.

This one depends on your art habits, and thinking outside the box. It helps to occasionally research what other creators are offering, and seeing how you could apply that to your own works.

In my case, I try and combine my writing and art as much as possible. My writing comes easier, but less frequently, while my art takes longer.

By balancing the two of them, I can create a variety of content. This blog post is an example!

Hope you found the post helpful!

If ever you’d like to give me feedback, or talk about what you can offer with your audience, feel free to hmu with a comment, or on Twitter!
